Summer Magic on the Farm
Thought I would post some pictures of what’s blooming and growing on the farm. Also a couple of updates.
Update one: Eaglemount Farms is now offering volunteer internship opportunities. We are looking for folks to help with farm chores, plant propagation, and seed and veggie harvest in exchange for a part of the bounty: food, plants, knowledge, free classes.
Update two- So far we have attracted two wonderful women who will be helping us create a rain catchment system off our barn roof and then they will helping with the gardens and plant propagation for the summer. We will soon start summer native plant seed propagation including native Lupines and Larkspur. Let us know if you are interested in helping.
Hazelnuts and Red Clover: We are in the process of opening up new areas for permaculture beds. We are preparing a field for a Hazelnut orchard that will include red clover as a cover crop and harvestable herb crop. This orchard will include other herbs and food crop under the Hazelnut trees. Permaculture designed all the way.
Berry crop update: Our strawberry fields are coming along and the raspberry plants we planted this last spring are looking good. We planted 40 blueberry plants this year and they are also doing well in spite of the heat.
We have several crops growing on the outer fields that are being raised dry land. These are un-irrigated crops. So far we a fabulous oat crop. Pinto beans and squash is inching along. There is some plant stress by the heat and lack of irrigation but they are still growing.
I have included a collage of photos from the farm today: July 21, 2015. There are lots of flowers this year. The bees and butterflies are very happy. The humming birds love the Klip Dagga in the circle garden.
